Le Bon Marché …
While coming out of the Placide, you look around and you are intrigued by the monument ahead. You then are just 2 steps away from this wonderful facade with impressive curves that is the Bon Marché. Located on the left bank, it is a place of fine tastes, art and a heritage of antique and modern philosophers. the first French department store, the authentique Parisian department store.
The Bon Marché was created in 1852 by Gustave Eiffel, father of the Eiffel Tower as well. Even after having wandered a thousand times down the store’s alleys, the stroller still feels the tickling when he sees this golden carrousel, reminding him of his childhood.
Junction of the Parisian life for more than a century, le Bon Marché is a true pillar of French fashion, as Zola mentioned in his work: « Au Bonheur des Dames »
Le Bon Marché to wonder around, day dream, please the ones you love and yourself. You could spend hours there, strolling around, and loosing yourself as if you were in a fortunate friend’s residence, decorated tastefully. Wander in the romantically named areas: the theater of beauty, the fashion apartment or even Balthazar for the men; and Paris’s « Grande Epicerie » with flavors which take you around the world. Try on extravagant shoes, crunch a pink heart sugar lump and snap for an evening dress.
Then lean over from the top floor and take a minute to admire the store’s life, revealing the discreet charm of French luxury.
Le Bon Marché is feeling like a princess, being treated like one and becoming a true queen.
A charming moment at the Placide
